Nominations closed for Export NZ Auckland's Advisory Committee 2010

Auckland Region - Nominations closed for Export NZ Auckland's Advisory Committee 2010

Export New Zealand Auckland is to host its AGM on October 22nd, 2009, when we will announce the incoming 2010 Export NZ Executive Committee.

The future of Export New Zealand is in helping more Kiwis transform their companies, to get onto the world stage and stay there.

It is a team game, so who is up for the challenge?

Are you passionate about the important role export plays in the future of New Zealand’s prosperity?  We are looking for new people like you to be involved – to inject fresh perspectives/enthusiasm/experience to make this organisation the key support system for current and emerging exporters; to prevent our country going down the gurgler.

All it takes is a commitment of 1.5 hours a month of your valuable time to meet with fellow Executive members to plan forthcoming activities and address issues confronting the exporting community.

Outside these meetings you may be invited to help judge the annual Export New Zealand export awards, occasionally asked to respond to queries from emerging exporters and of course welcomed at Khybar on Khyber (the monthly Auckland export bar).

As an exporter, you are very busy running your own business, and from time-to-time you will be overseas, so we do, of course, make allowance for this…

Given your commitment to the export sector, and the very fact that you are actively involved in exporting, and realising success, it would be Export New Zealand Auckland’s pleasure and privilege to have you involved with our organisation.

We are now inviting nominations for this committee, and these must be submitted to Catherine@exportnewzealand.org.nz by 4pm Thursday October 8th, 2009.

Please find the nominaton form pdf below.

The success formula

We have our work cut out for us over the next few years.   New Zealand is in the bottom quartile of the OECD countries

According to statistics on the Icehouse website – Auckland business incubator at www.theicehouse.co.nz - there are 750 globally capable and competitive Kiwi firms in New Zealand. Of those:

·         350 are exporting or trading internationally, eg, Vitaco (Healtheries), Icebreaker, Right Hemisphere and Fonterra; and

·         400 are domestic market focused companies such as Prolife Foods, and Foodstuffs that are beating international competitors.

We need to turn the 750 into 3,000 in order to reach the top of the OECD.  This is achievable within 5 years, the Icehouse says.

The next thing the Icehouse considered was how many firms it had incubated over the past 8 years that could fit into this ‘globally capable and competitive scale’. The answer was 150.

They have set a goal of 70 a year, which is 350 in 5 years.  The Icehouse is, therefore, saying it will deliver 20 per cent of the numbers required in New Zealand to get the country into the top half of the OECD: that is, it will deliver 500 of the required 3,000 enterprises.

Others around the country need to do their bit too to deliver the other 2,500.

The key question now is what Export NZ will do to get us into the top half of the OECD?

Thank you in anticipation for helping.
